It has been about 5 years since we ditched and switched our toxic chemical laden cleaning products. Maaaaaan I loathed cleaning before that. I would get headaches, nothing smelled good, and I couldn’t do it around my young children because it wasn’t safe. Anyone else get terribly rashy skin?
I wanted to share with you today my few recipes I use for cleaning using the most simple ingredients. They’re all pet and children friendly, actually good for the air, and smell amazing.
I’ll start with the easiest recipe. Thieves household cleaner + water. This is the only cleaner we use in our home. Ultra-concentrated and non-abrasive I use 1 capful and fill the rest of my spray bottle (about 20 oz) with water. I spray this on my countertops, kitchen table, wipe down my appliances, clean windows and mirrors, light switches and door knobs, cell phone. It is pretty much used for the bulk of surfaces here.
The Scrub. I use the scrub for the bathtub, toilet, sinks, grout and stovetops. It also works great with a couple drops of lemon to get stickers and labels off of things like old jars.
The recipe is so simple and approximate:
4 cups baking soda
2 capfuls Thieves household cleaner
slowly add a little cleaning vinegar until it is a crumbly scrubby texture.
You can decide if you want it more wet or dry. It works great either way.
If you want an easy way to make your vinegar even more epic, add lemon and orange rinds.
We make lemon juice for every Shabbat, so I’m able to keep this going and it has really amped up my clothes. They come out cleaner and brighter. After about a week it’s gone and I throw out the lemon rinds into the compost. If you want, you can take those soaked lemons and use them on the counters or stovetop to deep clean your stovetop using the scrub above and smushing it around with a lemon. I use it around my washer and it comes out sparkling clean.
Creamy Dusting Spray
My favorite use for this is actually cleaning my car dashboard and leather interior. It conditions everything so nicely.
Mix in a 20oz jar
3/4 c water
1 Tbl olive oil (We buy from Azure, here’s my referral link)
2 Tbl white vinegar
1/2 tsp xanthan gum (helps disperse everything and emulsify)
15 drops orange EO
Capful of Thieves household cleaner
Now go and thieves the day! Today is the perfect day to start, what area will you be focusing on?
