I wanted to share with you how we have observed Shabaut (Shavu’ot), Feast of Weeks, or Pentecost (Greek word for fiftieth). Let me tell you, the first year we observed the feasts we just did Passover. We were lost in what to do. We didn’t know who to listen to or what, so we simply just kept reading Scripture. That’s the best place you can be so you don’t fall into the trap of listening to others (including me) and doing traditions of men. Test everything brothers and sisters.
Shabaut simply means the counting of the amar (omer) for 50 days after Pasach (Passover) and Matsut (Unleavened Bread) starting from Firstfruits on the 26th day of the 1st Scriptural month. It always lands on the 15th day of the 3rd Scriptural Month. It’s a High Shabat, or day of rest, so no working or making others work.
Amar the Hebrew word עֹמֶר H6016 is a dry measure of 1/10 ephah (about 2 litres). This was the measure of manna that rained down from the shamayam (heaven). Their “daily bread”. There’s definitely a hidden gem there as the Word – Turah and Yahusha Mashayach are also referred to as bread and life!
Traditional readings for this Feast include: Uyaqura’a (Leviticus)23:15-22; Shamut (Exodus) 19-20; 34:22; Bamadabar (Numbers)28:26-31; Dabarayam (Deuteronomy) 16:9-12; Rut (Ruth); Yaramayahu (Jeremiah) 31:33, Yachazaqu’al (Ezekiel) 36:27; 2 Chronicles 8:13; Yuchanan (John) 14:15-29; Luqus (Luke) 24:49; Mashah (Acts) 1:4-5; 2; 1 Corinthians 12, 15; Galatians 5:22-23. Here’s a few activity inspirations. We did some tea bag staining on a printed 10 commandments and put them on blue paper to represent the sapphire stones. Another activity was Mashah (Moses) by the burning bush in a pop out card. The final was a man wearing tsayatsat (tzitzit, tassels, fringes) standing under the blood of the lamb on the doorposts using popsicle sticks.
2022 Shabaut we hosted. We made loaves of Einkorn bread and had a sandwich bar. Everyone brought their favorite Scripturally clean toppings and a side dish. I highly recommend!
Toppings we had:
Clean cuts of turkey/chicken/beef
Various cheeses (make sure you check those enzymes!)
Bubbies pickles
Jalapeños
Homemade mayo
Homemade jam + peanut butter
Plus plenty of delicious side dishes
It’s also fun to have fruit to remind everyone of Fruit of the Spirit and something sweet to remind us:
“The Turah of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 is perfect, bringing back the being; The witness of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 is trustworthy, making wise the simple; The orders of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 are straight, rejoicing the heart; The command of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 is clear, enlightening the eyes; The fear of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 is clean, standing forever; The right-rulings of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 are true, They are righteous altogether, More desirable than gold, Than much fine gold; And sweeter than honey and the honeycomb.”
Tahlah (Psalm) 19:7-10
This is how our family observes the feasts and oh what an exciting and baruk/blessed time it has been. Praise YAH!
