I was a cosmetologist/hair stylist for 12 years. In that time, I had been through quite a few beauty products. I had gobs of 1/2 used bottles of haircare lining our bathroom shelves. Each product helped one thing and it was like you needed more and more. When I started studying the effects of toxins in personal care products, I ditched it all. I started only buying products without xenoestrogens, fragrance/parfum, petroleum, sulfates, mineral oils, parabens, paraffin, silicone, and formaldehyde to name a few. These can cause an array of symptoms from headaches to infertility. Yeah it’s pretty serious.
Now I prefer to just stick with basic things I already have around my house. Plus it’s fun to create your own things sometimes. Fnd all my DIY recipes here.
- Egg white hair mask
- Fights dandruff
- Adds a shine to hair
- Promotes hair growth
- Cleanses and purifies hair
- Controls oily scalp & hair
- Gives hair volume
- Strengthens strands & hair follicles
- Method – mix 3 egg whites (depending on hair length and thickness) with a little water, whisk and apply to hair. Leave on about 7 minutes and then rinse with cool water. Follow up with shampoo.
- Body & Feet scrub
- Choose which way to exfoliate
- Salt. It is best to use sea salt because it contains several minerals like magnesium, calcium, and potassium that can help soften the skin and restore hydration. When rubbed into the skin, it can pull toxins out of the body while removing dead skin particles.
- Sugar is great for sensitive skin. It is an excellent topical exfoliant and is commonly used in face and body scrubs to exfoliate dead skin cells on the surface to reveal healthy glowing skin underneath.
- 1 cup of salt or sugar, 1/4 cup of carrier oil – olive oil, jojoba, or avocado, you can add in some essential oils for your needs. We added dried lavender from our property.
- Scrub over your body lightly. Use a pumice stone or luffah over feet to get extra dry skin off.
After you rinse out the egg whites and shampoo. I recommend doing this lovely apple cider vinegar rinse. It leaves your hair so shiny and smelling so nice.
2-4 tbsp raw apple cider vinegar
16 oz water
4-5 drops of Patchouli essential oil
With those extra egg yolks, make sure to make yourself a yolky treat. I enjoyed a nice cocoa matcha tea. I whisk together 2 egg yolks and 2 Tbl raw organic cane sugar (You can also do maple syrup and or honey). Then take some hot water and add a couple ounces, stir in 1 tsp of matcha, 1 tsp cocoa powder, a dash of ceylon cinnamon. I then warm up about 8 oz of milk and pour over top. Use a frother to blend. Top with homemade marshmallows. This egg yolk base works for chai tea or hot cocoa, the recipes are endless.
The last step to my pamper shower is spraying in my leave in conditioner and then plopping my hair with a cotton tshirt.
The leave in conditioner is simple. I fill a 20oz spray bottle 1/4 full of Lavender conditioner from Young living and 5 drops of each of these oils – Patchouli, Tea Tree, Rosemary, Ylang Ylang. They are great hair oils and also deter critters from finding a home in your hair, if you know what I mean. Then just fill up the rest of the bottle with warm water. Shake before use and spray on ends. This works on all hair types.
Skin must be moisturized. Find this tallow balm recipe soon!
I like to smell good, but I don’t like fragrances or parfums. They wreck havoc on our systems. But I love this simple essential oil roller. I take Young Living’s essential oils – 5 drops bloom, 5 drops geranium bourbon, 20 drops vanilla, and top a 15 ml roller with avocado oil. I love a good amount of vanilla to pair with the floral tones, you can adjust to your liking.
Let me know if you try any of these simple ways to pamper yourself from head to toe!
