When you go crunchy, sometimes you try some funky things. Giving up deodorant when finding out what awful toxins were in it was a no brainer. I went through many “natural” ones before settling on a few options I love.
Now, there is a detox period in going from using antiperspirants since they contain toxins like parabens, triclosan, phthalates, propylene glycol and aluminum. For the detox period, I like to do some arm pit masks, more on that in the future. I encourage you to stick with it.
It’s very important to let our bodies breathe and not clog our pores and lymphatic system up. I personally work on unclogging from the inside out. Josh Truex from Modern Roots has an amazing free protocol on detoxing and I highly recommend filling out his questionaire on the fresh start protocol. We must let those armpits sweat and do what they’re meant to do!
I now personally prefer to use Manuka essential oil. I pop a roller top on and I just roll a drop on clean armpits and no stink. My husband, however prefers my homemade deodorant and I wanted to share the recipe with you. If you don’t love to DIY, this is another wonderful option.
This recipe is quadrupled from the original and fills 6 of the 4oz mason jars. He prefers this method but you can get deodorant tubes in cardboard .
Deodorant recipe:
- 1 1/3 cup coconut oil
- 3/4 cup beeswax
- 1/2 cup shea butter
- 1 1/3 cup arrowroot powder
- 4 Tbl baking soda
- 60 drops Citrus Fresh Essential Oil
In a medium sized pot, warm coconut oil, beeswax, and shea butter on low heat until fully melted. take off heat and add in arrowroot powder, baking soda, and citrus fresh EO. Pour into containers and let cool. Immediately I wipe down my pot with a paper towel and wash while warm.
I’ve personally tried other essential oil blends and Citrus Fresh definitely works the best for keeping us fresh and not funky.
