Beef Gelatin 5 ingredient Clean Gut Friendly Marshmallows. Our family enjoys marshmallows as a treat with our homemade hot cocoa, warm strawberry milk, or roasting over the fire. Finding marshmallows that are Biblically clean without pork, don’t have any corn syrup, dyes, etc. are spendy and even vegan ones have fillers we tend to avoid.
If you don’t have time to make your own marshmallows, we enjoy:
Dandies for Sukkot when we consume copious amounts of smores every night
Max Mallows have a bunch of options
Unfortunately Smashmallow isn’t any longer in business but those were great, so everyone shower them with requests to start making them again.
Onto the Marshmallow recipe:
Ingredients:
- 2 cups water divided
- 5 Tbl unflavored beef gelatin (We like Perfect Supplements)
- 1 cup raw honey
- 1 cup maple syrup
- for coating – arrowroot powder
- optional – a dash of vanilla extract
Method:
- In your mixing bowl, Add 1 cup of the water & 5 Tbl of beef gelatin and give it a stir. Sit to the side and allow to bloom (absorb water)
- Sprinkle your pan with arrowroot powder until it’s coated well.
- In a medium large saucepan heat 1 cup of water, 1 cup of raw honey, 1 cup maple syrup to a boil. Once it’s reached a boil, I let it go on medium/high heat for 15 minutes. Shut the burner off and
- Pour your boiling mixture to the electric mixing bowl, start on slow and cover with a towel as it can get a little messy. Increasing your speed, you’ll whip it for about 10 minutes. The mixture goes from brown, to cream, to white and triples in volume.
- This step you need to act fast – plop it into your pan and spread quickly.
- Allow to cool and once it’s set you can sprinkle arrowroot over top. Slice with a sharp knife and toss in the powder.
Notes:
- You can halve this recipe easily.
- You should use an electric mixer of some sort, unless you have super big muscles.
- a 9×13 pan will yield thicker more square marshmallows or this fits great in my stoneware sheet/bar pan.
- You can alternatively spread them out and cut shapes with cookie cutters if you don’t want squares and just use the scraps for adding to your warm drinks.
- These can work for campfire smores, but let harden for a couple days first and don’t let them get as warm.
