As we long for the Feasts of 𐤉𐤄𐤅𐤄 found in Leviticus (UYQRA) 23, I wanted to share some of the meals that we’ve done in the past for some inspiration. I hope you have some favorites to share too. I tend to go a little more all out for this special harvest time. It’s supposed to be a time of rejoicing and bringing our firstfruits to the table. It’s also nice to warm up your tummies with warm food it it gets a little chilly.
Breakfasts:
Pancakes (fresh milled) with peanut butter (yes it’s a thing), syrup, and a side of beef bacon.
Biscuits and chicken or venison gravy (freeze biscuits ahead of time)
Breakfast burritos – make fresh or make ahead and freeze
Fresh milled sourdough make aheads (can freeze):
Cinnamon rolls
Monkey Bread
Banana Bread
Carrot Breakfast Bake in 9×13
Muffins
English muffins
Bagels
French toast with any leftover bread from sandwiches
Those go great to pair with a protein:
Beef or turkey bacon
Applegate chicken and maple sausages
Leftover steak, hot dogs, or burgers easily added to a flatbread or potatoes & eggs for a hash.
Doesn’t look like much (we’ve upgraded to stainless steel bowls) but this oatmeal is protein packed. Cook your oatmeal in water, milk, or unflavored bone broth. Once it’s done, take it off heat and add in some Perfect supplements beef collagen, a couple pastured farm eggs, a pinch of salt, cinnamon, and splash of maple syrup. It is going to keep you going. We pair it with chicken sausages.
My children thought having a fun vegan cereal was the highlight of their trip. They would eat that late at night or early in the morning for a treat – they took these dye free fruitloop things and made fun shapes.
Flatbreads:
These flatbreads are the best. You can easily make them on the go or make up a bunch to freeze.
Beef hot dogs (check the casing)
Burgers
Pizza
Peanut butter & Jelly, Butter & Honey, Cream cheese & honey
Sandwiches with turkey or chicken & cheese, Chicken caesar wraps
Philly cheesesteaks (chicken, steak, or ground beef)
When it’s cold out and you have leftovers. It sure is nice to have a pizza oven in your tent. I love the 360 Cookware stainless. It fits in there perfectly.
I also have the oven to table pan from 360 cookware that fits well in the pizza oven.
Main Dishes:
Chicken legs or thighs grilled up
Roast, potatoes, carrots or make it into a full soup with green beans, corn, tomatoes
Sooooooooups – easy to make ahead, freeze, dump into a pan and warm up. Keeps bellies warm. Make some sourdough to dip in it. Potato soup, broccoli cheese soup (also great over leftover baked potatoes)
Honey garlic or sweet and sour chicken + rice
Tacos/nachos
I feel like homemade mac n cheese with cut up leftover beef hot dogs on top is just perfect camping food. (My friend Ashlee, my favorite cook, would disagree. I still love her.)
BBQ shredded chicken (or any meat) over a baked potato
I love camping with friends and checking out their dinners. This one was some delicious salmon, green breans, and rice.
Another friend made up some chicken fries (we like to use boulder canyon chips and fresh milled bread crumbs) and homemade potato fries. This is one of our favorites. I think this might be on the menu to make up a bunch ahead of time and just reheat on the griddle.
My daughter was blessed to get her first deer before Sakut (Feast of Tabernacles), so we brought the smoker and smoked it in the morning and while we had our Scripture readings/studies, we had a tasty snack.
On some nature hikes our friends found some edible mushrooms that they sauteed up and seasoned deliciously!
Those same adventurous friends made some spicy hot nachos over the fire! They were sure to warm you up. So good!
We ventured over to some friends where they had a baked potato bar with chili and ALLLLLLLLL the toppings. ALLLLLLL of them. My favorite was when someone handed me this local beef brat stuffed with cheese on a flatbread…… Hey Sady, I hope you invite us back next year (haha)
Snackies:
Fruits
Veggies
Boulder Canyon chips
Trail Mix with some organic nuts, pretzels, unreal or little secrets candies
Beef sticks – We like Nick’s Sticks
energy balls – oats, peanut butter, honey, and favorite add ins
Desserts:
Chocolate protein egg pudding
Cookies (froze ahead)
Smores with pork free marshmallows – Dandies or smore casserole
Hot cocoa with homemade marshmallows (You can roast these too! Just get them really hot fast or they’ll plop right off your stick, and that is just sad!)
Warm apple cider – I buy apple juice and warm it up with some pumpkin pie spice, maple syrup or honey, and a dash of lemon juice
These are some cookies that our friend’s daughter made to share with all of us. Another camping trip our friend shared molasses cookies. Sharing is caring when it comes to food.
Hope you got some new ideas. Share with me your favorites. Happy Feasting!
